He says that the Socs were trying to look poor and started to dress like the greasers. Bryon also mentions that the Socs associated with Left-wing politics and considered themselves to be liberals. He says that they would invite him to their parties simply because they wanted to be thought of as cool. Bryon's description of his high school depicts the popular styles and ideologies of the 1960s. Hippie clothing such as distressed Levis and untucked shirts were considered the popular fashion. Also, liberal ideals and the support of ending the Vietnam War were significant political stances that individuals took in the 1960s.
