In the case of methyl orange, it provides yellow color in alkaline and neutral pH conditions. It changes its color to orange-yellow at a pH of about 4.4 and then changes color to red at a pH of 3.1. 


Methyl orange is commonly used in water quality testing for measuring the amount of acidity or alkalinity in a given water sample. It is also used in the textile industry for dyeing and printing purposes.
